National League Preview

Now for the bunch of losers (ahem)...I mean the national league preview. The NL lost a great owner last season, pullmeafredo...sort of the Phil Jackson of our world, but have enough great owners and teams to make a relatively decent effort towards making a somewhat competitve world series. Here is a preview of one team from each division.

NL North

Detroit fans have been wondering for several seasons when the team might get back to the glory days of 90 wins and division titles. Well fans, sorry to say that this may not be the year. The good news for fans as they follow another season of the Vic and Victor Renteria show is that management does have a plan. Peter Kouzmanoff is the future ace of the staff and will likely be in the fold by next season along with a couple other great prospects. Buy your season tickets now fans, because the future is bright in Motown.

NL East

The NL East was a highly competitive, if not overly bland division last season. Rochester stood out slightly from the group and took their first division title. The team brings back much of the same roster this season. They did go out and get Felipe Tavarez to complement JT Hardtke in the bullpen. That may just be enough to eek out another title.

NL South

Like Detroit, Florida was once a powerhouse of a team that has fallen on hard times as of late. With a steady progression of wins over the past couple of seasons, however, hopes were relatively high coming into this season. That is until Alex Harris suffered a shoulder injury and demoralized both fans and management. As they said in South Park for the Mets, "Opening Day and here's the first pitch....and the season's over. Maybe next year.

NL West

Fresno has been one of the best teams in the world over the last 4 seasons, including 2 Wolrd Series championships. All of the key players remain in place and MiguelCarrara returns after a short stint in Pittsburgh to bolster the bullpen. It would be a shock if this team doesn’t win the division yet again, have 100 wins for the 5^th straight season and make an appearance in at least the NLCS. For fans of dynasties in full swing, look no further than Fresno…we like to offer every team a little More Cowbell, but Fresno seems to have quite enough already.

American League Preview

We will start this season preview with a look at the World Series trophy holding American League. I have selected one team from each division to preview. I will not be doing a favorites list or anything of that sort, but will have a midseason report card for each division sometime around the All-star break that will take a look at playoff possibilities.

AL North

Trenton went 93-69 last season to win their division and a repeat performance is going to depend greatly on the performance of two stars they traded for last season. Trenton is counting on a rebound performance from Ralph Perry, after his disappointing debut for the squad after they traded for him last season. Vic Becker may not put up monstrous numbers like he did for this team last season, but the offense will still revolve around him. Overall, this squad will go as far as Perry’s pitching and Becker’s bat will take them.

AL East

Cleveland always seems to be in the race for their division. This season should be no different. They will still be powered by two lethal bats in Johnny Cook and Don Leach, who are both closing in on 600 HRs. The fans may be interested in the race for 600 for a bit, but as the season wares on, attention will shift to the potential championship run for this squad. After bringing in free agent ace Ivan Osuna, the sky is the limit for this bunch.

AL South

San Juan’s incredible 111 win season ended in disappointment last season. The loss of Ed Walters is going to hurt, but will it keep this team from a 5^th consecutive division title? Probably not…but expectations will have to be muted a bit, of course that might be just what the doctor ordered for a redemption run at a ring.

AL West

Arizona has gotten off to consecutive 42-49 starts only to finish 89-73 both times. Under 3^rd year owner, tamadrumr, this squad has instantly become relevant. With Jerry Cedeno joining returning aces Dennis Inouoe and Benny Saturria, they finally have the rotation tamadrumr has been promising fans since he took over. This team is built for the playoffs, but will have to avoid another dreadful start to make sure they get there.

Playoff Preview

American League:

The first round matchup between Arizona and Cleveland should be a toss-up. The Sand Pirates may have a slight edge with the duo of Benny Saturria and Dennis Inouoe, but their pitching falls off sharply after that. Of course the winner of this series would then have to face San Juan in the division series, so a series win would be somewhat bitter sweet. Expect Cleveland to win in 5.

The matchup between Trenton and Helena should be a good one as well. The loss of Ebenezer Hooper is a huge blow for the Trash Heap. The Trappers need their bats to produce, especially 30-30 man Francis Robinson, who comes into the playoffs on an 18 game hitting streak. Expect Helena to win in 4.

ALCS prediction: San Juan over Philadelphia in 5 games.

National League:

Buffalo vs San Diego should be a low-scoring series, where the first team to 2 runs has a hell of a chance to win. The winner of this series has a great chance of making a long run in these playoffs. Expect San Diego to win in 5.

Rochester vs Charleston is a completely different matchup from the other NL tangle. Here, we have two teams that can put some runs on the board. The question here is whether the River Dogs are too reliant on Deacon Smith. If he can produce, then the Dogs will be barking into the next round. If the Haze are able to pitch through or around him, they'll have a great shot. Expect Rochester to win in 4.

NLCS prediction: Fresno over Charlotte in 6 games, after the Hornets have to go the distance to beat the their division series opponent.

World Series prediction: San Juan defeats Fresno in 5 games to bring the trophy back to the AL.

Postseason Push

Pittsburgh needs to go on a run to avoid the dubious distinction of spending over $100 million and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

There are four teams still alive in the hunt for the second wildcard slot in the AL. Of course we all know that San Juan fans have pretty much already booked their hotel rooms for the World Series.

World Series for the first time

The time has come for another World Series in More Cowbell. This season we have two franchises making their first appearance in the big dance. Cleveland Rocks comes in hoping to extend the AL's unprecedented World Series winning streak which now stands at four. The NL hopes depend on the Pittsburgh Piranha who comes in with a dominant NL Championship win over the favorite Charlotte Hornets. Who will come out the victor? Tune in and find out.

Streak Continues

Once again the American League has proved it's worth and the NL have proven to be a bunch of also rans. Four straight seasons the AL has sent a different team to the Ultimate Series and for four straight seasons that team has proven to be better than the NL representative. Charlotte,formerly of Ottawa, did their best to end the streak but Columbus proved to be the better team in claiming Bernie10025's first World Series title. Once again the series went seven games as has every series in the current run by the AL. Charlotte(Ottawa)was appearing in thier second straight series and fourth overall. This was Columbus's second appearance in the playoffs but first World Series trip.

American League asserts it's dominance.

Once again the end of the season sees an American League team as More Cowbell's Champion. This time it is the Kansas City Monarchs proving to the world that the NL is just outclassed in the only series that matters. The last team to win for the NL,the Ottawa O'Faces, gave the Monarchs all they could handle for seven games but in the end Rockydog's boys just proved to much for the best NL club. It is the first Championship for Rockydog and the Monarchs and extends the AL streak to three in a row over the NL. All the series wins in the streak have been by 4-3 counts

Season 9 Champion

It took all seven games against a scrappy Detroit team but when it was all over the Syracuse Demons once again reigned supreme in world Cowbell. It is the third overall title for the Syracuse franchise and second overall for Sonofodin. The Detroit franchise was making their second appearance in the Series and though they put up a better showing this time they came up just short.

Ottawa and their coach pullmeafredo are once again on top of the Cowbell world as they defeat the Syracuse Demons 4-2 in world Series play.

Power 10 s8

Time as flown by since the last rankings and the contenders have separated themselves from the pretenders. So here are the power 10-the teams that are in the driving seat heading into the all-star break:

1) Florida Flippers- gig has his boys playing for a World Series trip . Goldy is again his regular dominate self but the difference this season is there isn't much of a let down through out the rest of the rotation as Michalak and Gibbons have combined to go 18-2 thus far. Throw in Campos and you have a foursome that can mow down any team. With pitching like that a halfway decent offense will take you far and the Flippers threesome of Steele,Robinson and Leach can mash with the best of them.

2)Sante Fe Ragin' Flames- the preseason flurry of trades have paid off for GM kevbo65 as they find themselves with the 2nd best record in the league. A balanced offense led by Camacho has become the #2 scoring franchise going. They have also become road warriors this season as they have yet to hit double digits in the loss column on the road. If the pitching can continue to hold them in games this team could be fighting for home field come season end.

3)Pittsburgh Piranha - Currently holding a comfortable 10 game cushion in the NL East-Braddavis has his boys pitching(#1 in Cowbell),Hitting(#5 in BA) and Fielding(tied for 5th). Offense has been led by Lowell but it is the consistency from top to bottom that has been the key. Pitching has also been key and the Piranha's foursome of Strong,Valdivia,Vega and Grahe could make an argument with the Flipper's foursome as the best in the NL

4) Vancouver Venom- Neck and neck with Santa fe for the top Al spot. I Thought after P.Ferguson left the offense would take a down turn. I was wrong as the bats have been spraying balls all over the field once again.
MVP candidate Guevara as once again got the ball rolling and his fellow snakes have followed suit. Throw in a top 10 pitching staff led by a revived Caballero and the Venom once again will try to insure the road to the Series leads through Vancouver.

5)St.Louis Shmoos-Last of the upper tier of teams in the NL. Pitching staff has been revitalized in St louis as they have risen from a cellar dweller in staff ERA to top 5. And though the offense is no longer tops in the league they still score enough to give the staff ample opportunities to win. With a comfortable 13 game lead in the west the Shmoos should sail into the all-star break with a fully rested staff.

6)Syracuse Demons- though the teams in the AL North continue to get better it is only second place they are fighting for as the Demons are once again flexing their muscles(and getting younger in the process) Led by a perennial top pitching staff and top offense the demons have proven year in and year out that they are the ones that scare people and not the other way around.

7)Kansas City Monarchs-Are looking up in the division for the first time in three seasons but it's not because of their play as they still boast a .600 winning percentage. Joaquin Beltran as led a potentially potent offense and with a staff that can keep the team in games this team still seems on track for it's regular run after the All-star game.

8)Ottawa O Faces- Though 10 back in the division they are currently the top Wild card entrant and the champs are due for a run. Chavez is pounding the ball and if he can learn to hit for average he will become one of the top forces in the league. Good young staff that will develop more as the season progress and could once again lead this team to a playoff berth. After that anything could happen.

9)Rochester Royals- the addition of Gagne this offseason has proven well worth it as he is pounding everything thrown his way most of which ends up in some fans lap. Pitching staff has struggled a bit so far but still time to get on track and the Royals should be sitting pretty come the All-star break.

10)Cleveland Steamers- This spot was a toss up between the division leading Taters and the suddenly hot Steamers. The fact that the Cleveland team has only lost once in the last two weeks(game time) pushed them over the top. Todzilla has continued is teams climb from the depths of despair and has now become a legit playoff contender. Led by a power tandem of Sanchez/Daniels and the pitching of Edgar Astacio the steamers are in prime position to at the very least claim a Wild Card spot come playoff time.

Power Ranking-Out with the old in with the new

Time for the very first season 8 power poll. This season we have a bunch of new cities making their debuts in the power rankings. But it's not just new cities. There are some historically bad teams that have decided to join the bigs and beat up on the traditional powers so here is the S8 issue1 power rankings:

1)Florida Flippers- After a two season hiatus from the top spot in their own division the Flipper's debut as season 8's top team. Led by the hitting of Felix Steele and Don Leach the offense has been explosive.But it has been the pitching that has led the way with the starters going a combined 14-2 to lead the team to a early league best record of 18-4.

2)Vancouver Venom- Hottest team going right now as they have reeled off 10 straight. They have proven that last season's hit/run barrage was not a fluke as they continue to pour it on even without DH Preston Ferguson. Throw in some more stellar pitching and you have the makings of another World Series contending season.

3)St. Louis Shmoos-The move from Colorado has done wonders for the pitching staff and the offense has barely lost a step in what could be a return trip to the World Series,a place the franchise hasn't been since season 1.

4)Syracuse Demons- One of the top teams since season 1 Led by one of the best pitching staffs in the majors and an offense that can score with anybody, the Demons are again poised to make a long playoff run this season. With a couple of guys getting a little long in the tooth the GM has done a great job of signing top free agents to keep the offense rolling to their own beat.

5)Santa Fe Ragin' Flames- After an offseason of furious trades Kevbo as taken the perennial bottom dweller and raised expectations to the tune of first place in the AL South. Though it is still early the Flames' have proven they can smash the ball at their new ballpark and challenge any and all AL teams to out score them.

6)Pittsburgh Piranha-After a couple of season's of 4th place finishes the Pittsburgh franchise has leaped to the top of the NL East standings on their quest to finish from worst to first. At or near the top of all three Statistical categories(pitching,hitting,fielding) they have truly put the team in the team concept. If they can stay consistent they will give the NL East a new champion for the first time since season 3.

7)Trenton Taters- Once again competing for the NL north crown. One of the most talented teams going the taters will be at or near the top all season if they can avoid the injury bug. The owner has recently put power hitting 1st baseman Rios out there as trade bait so more talent may soon be on their way.

8)Iowa City Corn Dawgs-The latest of the NL west teams making an early season run at the division leader Shmoos(only team to win division every season). Will the Corn Dawgs have the staying power this season that others have not had in previous years? Talent wise Iowa can easily compete with anybody as they have a few real good hitters and the starting pitching can be stellar. If the bullpen can keep them in close games they could at the very least earn themselves their first playoff berth.

9)Atlanta Blowfish- Hard to say if the move to Atlanta has had any effect as they have started this season much the same way they ended last season. The hitting as been decent with the bases empty but the clutch hits have been few and far between. Pitching has been good enough to win but the bullpen has failed to hold a inning when needed. Has their NL East reign come to an end? To early to tell but thus far they trail Pittsburgh in every way.

10)Ottawa O Faces- pullmeafredo's World Series champs have started off slow but no need to be worried as they finished last season on a 6 game slide before rolling through the postseason. My preseason favorite for MVP,Carlos Chavez,has gotten off to a slow start at the plate but his potential is off the charts. Team will come around and as long as the pitching is there the O Faces will have a chance to defend their title come playoff time.

Colts revisited???

"Cincinnati has been a great city and the fans have been great. However the leadership of the city has decided not to come up with a reasonable new stadium deal and when the Atlanta management group sent us a proposal it was hard to turn down."

And with that quote the owner of the Blowfish, in a move reminiscent of the NFL Baltimore Colts over night move to Indianapolis, surprised the city and the world when he ordered moving vans to roll out of Great America towards Atlanta late last week. The Atlanta Proposal consisted of a complete remodeling of Turner Field,additional luxury boxes and tax breaks. Also circulating in the rumour mill are additional Fringe benefits that have yet to be discovered. Time will only tell if this move will bring a very successful franchise to their knees or see their stock continue to soar.

Ottawa rules the World

Let the ticker tape fall,the O Faces have won their very first World Series title. This time they left no room for an 9th inning rally has they put double digits up on Rochester in game 7. Series MVP was Carlos Chavez has he batted .357 with 5 homeruns and 9 RBI in the seven games. He also scored 9 runs.

Ottawa's pitching staff was superb throughout the playoffs as they dismantled the NL and continued their dominance through game 4 of the World Series. However Rochester,coming off a pretty dominate AL playoff run themselves,got off the mat and made the series interesting as they won games 5 and 6 at home to send the Series to game 7. In the end the Ottawa staff proved to strong as Maxwell pitched a complete game three hitter clinching the title for his team.
Both teams are set up for playoff runs for years to come so this may just be an appetizer for the future.

An off season of change has resulted into a World Series run for the Rochester Royals. On the way they defeated three of the top four seeds in the American League. And it wasn't even close. The Ottawa O Faces swept the Cincinnati four games to none in what will go down as one of the most dominating performance in Cowbell playoff history. They did it with offense scoring forty runs in the four game set. They did it with pitching allowing only fourteen runs. They did it with defense with only one error in the series. In the end the O Faces showed that they are now the team to beat in the National League after being only three season removed from being the worst. Unlike NCAA basketball the number 1 seeds will not be making the final
four as both were upset in the Division Championship series. Syracuse,the defending Cowbell world champs,were taken out by the Rochester Royals three games to one. The Royals put up 29 runs in the four games against the majors best pitching staff. The fifth seed will now travel to the winner of Game 5 between Vancouver and Kansas City for game 1 of the American League Championship. Number 4 Ottawa also won their series 3-1 over the NL number 1 Colorado, winning three straight after a giving up 12 runs in a game 1 loss. They now head to Cincinnati to do battle with the defending NL champs for the NL crown.

Power Poll

1) Syracuse Demons -(2)-Still number 2 in overall seeding in the AL playoff race but won the head to head match up with number 1 Vancouver earlier this week and only trails by 2 with another 4-game series against the Venom on the Horizon. Pitching staff can best the runs against record if they avg less than 2.7 runs given up over the next 16 games(currently held by New York)

2) Vancouver Venom-(1)- Still holds two game lead for best record and homefield throughout. However struggled a little this past week losing series against the three other division leaders. A key 4 game series against the Demons will more than likely decide which team gets number 1 and which gets number 2. Avg 5.2 runs over the next 16 and the scoring record is theirs(currently held by Colorado)

3)Kansas City Monarchs-(3)- Number three but with authority as they proved to the top two that they aren't pushover by taking series from both this past week. Will host a first round series over the lowest wildcard so it's time to get the rotation in order and rest some starters

4)Colorado Scandal -(8)-Took control of Homefield this week and doesn't look to be letting up. Team is in playoff form as they swept fellow division leader Trenton in a three game set. Has wrapped up the division for a record seventh straight season

5)Rochester Royals-(nr)-Took control of wildcard top spot with a superb week. They won series against division leader Boston and swept fellow wildcard contender Las Vegas. Tough series against Syracuse but fairly easy road after that until the last series when they go to Fargo for three. Could decide the top spot in the Wildcard race.

6)Fargo Falcons -(6)- Could be 5b as they and Rochester are neck and neck for the top wildcard spot. Almost identical remaining schedule as they also draw Syracuse this week. However they play the Demons and Royals in back to back series to end the season so it could deplete the reserves come playoff time

7)Cincinnati Blowfish -(8)-Top 5 in batting,pitching and fielding but can't seem to find any consistent way to win. Has watched their number 1 playoff spot disappear and is on the verge of watching their division lead follow the same suit. Key series against Trenton and New York this week which could decide if they even make the playoffs

8) Trenton Taters -(5)- Elements were in place for Trenton to take control of the playoff race. But after being swept by Colorado the four game series against the Blowfish and New York and a three game series against Madison will be key to a first round bye and possibly their division lead.

9)New York Bison-(nr)-Has closed the gap for the division lead to 5 games and have tied for the wildcard lead with Madison. Has a key three game series at the end of the season with the Blowfish that could decide if they will go on the road,host a first round game or stay home.

10)Ottawa O Faces -(7)- Struggled this past week as they lost the two series against playoff contenders. However they still maintained a four game lead in their division and with series against Colorado and Florida this week they have a chance to further secure their playoff spot and perhaps move up in the pecking order.

Dropped out:Boston Massacre-(10)- Separated themselves from number 2 in the division so will have ample opportunities to rest starters and prepare for a playoff run. A division winner so will host a first round series but could be underdogs to the wildcard team.

Madison Chaos-(9)- Has failed to take advantage of top team struggles as they seem to be content on the wildcard lead. However with fast rising Florida and New York the only option for the Chaos may be to win the division,which is still within their grasp

Jerry Collins

Jerry Collins of the Madison Chaos tossed a complete game no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Piranha yesterday. He was absolutely dominate as he struck out seven batters. His only blemish was a 8 pitch walk to Mateo Cruz in the fifth inning. The Chaos pounded out 10 hits in the first 7 innings but were unable to put any runs across the plate. But in the 8th inning with two outs,pinch hitter Magglio Aguilera crushed a ball to the upper deck in left field providing the only run Collins would need. The Chaos did push two more across in the ninth but Collins proved to be more than capable of letting the first run hold up as he induced three infield outs in the bottom of the ninth to complete the nohitter.

Power Rankings

Second week of the power rankings find the top three spots steady and strong with AL teams. After that it's all chaos. The NL continues to play hot potato with playoff seeding. Thirty-five games left so it's put up or shut up time

Top Ten Power Ranking

1)Vancouver Venom -(1)- Rolling along to the number 1 seed and home field throughout the playoffs. Has a shot for the leagues all-time scoring record currently held by Colorado.

2) Syracuse Demons -(2)- Best pitching staff in the majors asserted their dominance on the AL this past week posting 5 shutouts including back to back three hitters over Scranton. Offense has also kicked it up another notch. Home field throughout is still in their sights

3)Kansas City Monarchs-(3)- Rough week as they lost to some teams that they should of beat but still the only team that poses any challenge to the top two teams. A key stretch is on the horizon as they play nothing but playoff teams this week including #1 and #2 in this poll.

4)Colorado Scandal -(8)-Biggest upward mover in this weeks poll as they won key series against Ottawa and Cincinnati. A little erratic but so is the rest of the NL. Offense is still strong and pitching as been better than previous years. With a late season surge could very well make a trip back to the world series.

5)Trenton Taters -(6)- Had a normal week by Trenton standards. Lose three, win three, lose two, win two. Remarkably that trend has been the most consistent of the four division leaders and could very well result in a first round bye for the Taters

6)Fargo Falcons -(7)- Still in the wild card lead and though they could very well end the season with a top four record will play on the road come playoff times. Have 7 games this week against playoff contenders so it's time to secure that wild card spot and try and get some rest for the starters before season's end.

7)Ottawa O Faces -(4)- rough early part of the week but picked up in the last day and a half as they won a series against the east leading Blowfish and have currently won three in a row. Easily could take control of the playoff race as they have an eleven game home stand this week.

8)Cincinnati Blowfish -(5)- Still have the best NL record which is more a testament on how the rest of the league has been playing. Only bright spot this week was the no hitter thrown against the O Faces in their second game. However the Blowfish have lost the three games after that spoiling any kind of momentum. Two of those losses were against former pitchers. Up next -another former pitcher.

9) Madison Chaos-(nr)-Took three of four from the Blowfish and two of three from the Scandal both playoff contenders. Sit three back from Trenton and controls the wildcard race at the moment. Very easily could earn a first round bye with any type of consistent play.

10)Boston Massacre-(9)-Had a rough week and have given Scranton a slimmer of hope for the division title. However they are still the division leader and it is a position of power that wildcard contenders do not have.

Dropped out:Rochester Royals -(10)- Not really anything they did but what other teams below them did. Still have a grip on the second wildcard spot. Still plenty of time left so the bluebloods have to keep winning to hold off the likes of Vegas

Blowfish duo throw a gem

Andy Hawkins took to the mound yesterday trying to halt a second half slide that has knocked the Blowfish off their perch as a world series contender. By the end of the day Hawkins and Piper Ponson had combined to no-hit the O Faces and regain some momentum for their struggling team. The reigning Cy Young pitcher lasted six inning giving up four free passes and striking out another four. Ponson took the ball in the bottom of the seventh and pitched three perfect innings to finish the gem. Neil Hill hit his 52nd homerun insupport of their efforts. The Blowfish manager applauded the efforts of his two pitcher and stated that he hopes it would builds some team confidence as the season winds down.

Top Ten Power Ranking

1)Vancouver Venom -(nr)-No surprise here as the Venom have the most potent offense in the majors by over 120 runs. On top of that their pitching staff has also given up the fewest runs in the bigs. When you run 1st in the top two major categories it's hard not to be the favorite to win it all. At this point it is a very real possibility.

2) Syracuse Demons -(nr)- the defending world series champion is again riding pitching to his title defense. Probably the best match up with Vancouver as they have matched up the last two seasons in the AL championship series. The offense is nothing to sneeze at as they have two of the most potent offensive stars in league history on the roster.

3)Kansas City Monarchs-(nr)-Rocky has gotten his troops off the snide and are now competing with the Demons for the first round bye. Though his pitching his a little off from the top two AL squads they have been pitching lights out the last two weeks with three shutouts and a number of other quality starts.With a offense that can score with the best of them it will get quite interesting down the stretch.

4)Ottawa O Faces -(nr)- The Hottest team in the majors the last two weeks and it shows in the standings as they become the highest ranked NL team on the board. Pitching and timely hitting have carried the day for this team as they have opened up a commanding 10 game lead on annual playoff participant Florida

5)Cincinnati Blowfish -(nr)- The three time defending NL champ has been limping along of late. The home field cushion they once had has dwindled to one game which isn't necessarily bad as they sport the NL's best road record. Pitching has carried the once dominating offense thus far but with a couple of injuries to the staff this may not be the case much longer.

6)Trenton Taters -(nr)- Though the owner loves to berate his guys the Trenton pitching staff is one of the NL's best. Now that the offense seems to be hitting their stride Trenton will be a dangerous team in the coming weeks especially considering the fact that they are about to begin a long home stand

7)Fargo Falcons -(nr)-How much ground do you make up when you have an 8-2 record in the last 10 games get you? Not much within the division when the only team you trail goes on the same streak. But it does get you the wildcard lead. Fargo has come out of the all-star break on a tear. Pitching has been superb with the exception of two games and the hitting has been clutch. Will it be enough to win the division? Doubtful but if they stay hot it will clinch the first playoff spot in team history.

8)Colorado Scandal -(nr)- Team nobody in the NL wants to play come playoff time. Ken Smith has been exceptional making the Colorado staff formidable even in Coors. Offense is always one the best around. With two home series against Ottawa and Cincinnati Colorado could easily make a move in these rankings and playoff seedings.

9)Boston Massacre -(nr) Boston is back in it's customary spot after a year absence. They are riding their offense to any kind of glory as the pitching staff has been inconsistent all season. But it is an offense that is capable of doing damage so in a short series with just enough pitching anything could happen.

10) Rochester Royals -(nr)- The team that did the most in the offseason to improve the major league club finds itself in the midst of a wild card battle. Riding a 5 game winning streak they are in a virtual tie with Las Vegas for the final spot with plenty of ball still left to play. The two teams are virtual locks on the offensive end with Vegas holding a slight edge on the pitching side. However Rochester is the hot team at the moment so earns the final spot in this week's rankings.

Matt Gagne

For three and a half innings it looked as though this seasons all-star game was going to be a mid-summer's night classic. That was until Matt Gagne came up to bat with two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth. With a short compact swing he sent Sam Goldstein's 2-1 pitch over Cash Field's left centerfield wall that essentially won the game for the American League over his former National League brethren. After the game Gagne said he knew his squad would win because they had more heart than the other club. Goldstein could only say he was disappointed in his control issues and took total blame for the loss.

Neil Hill

Neil Hill is the season 7 Homerun Derby champ. Mr. Hill started the first round off with a bang knocking eleven of the first seventeen balls he saw out of the park. Though his numbers tailed off afterwards his first round total of thirteen was good enough to secure a spot in round number two. Also advancing to round two was Pascual Martin with a first round total of ten. Don Leach and Alberto Tavarez both also advanced after surviving an epic swing off with Matt Gagne and Desi Blanco. In the second round P.Martin launched nine balls out of the park securing a spot in the finals with a two round total of nineteen. Though N.Hill only managed to hit three over the wall,his two round total of sixteen was enough to beat out D.Leach and M.Gagne and allowed him to advance to the winner take all finals. And what a finals it was. Hill started the show off by sending seven balls to the street before a line drive just over the third base line ended it. Undeterred Martin smashed seven of his own including a 532 feet shot down the right field line that earned a couple from Indiana a cool million when the ball hit one of the Coke targets located at each foul pole. The tie sent the two into a sudden death swing-off. Hill wrapped the first ball he saw on the fair side of the right field pole taking the lead. It proved to be the winner when Martin grounded out in his first at bat. Final round total 8-7

But that's why we play the game.

Draft preparations(2/19am) are well under way. The Wichita Linemen are already on the clock. The biggest players during draft day could very well be the Colorado Scandal. The perennial NL West champion has found themselves in the enviable posisition of possessing six of the top sixty picks(four in the first round) giving their coach,Ddingo, a prime opportunity to restock his major league club in years(seasons) to come. However Durham Bulls,Cincinnati BlowFish,Buffalo Bison and Chicago Brainiacs will also have three picks apiece in the first round so alot of stock will go into each teams draft board to see where all the pieces may land. Of course with so many extra picks out there there is bound to be a team with not so many. This season it is the Rochester Royals. After the number 9 overall pick the Blue bloods will not pick again until the 8th round with the 252 overall pick. Of course the free agent signings of the Royals have them sitting in second place in the A.L. North fighting for a potential wild card position.
